For this gig, we rehearsed a few days. It was also a very new venture for Kohai, which was the production company involved in bringing DPR Ian and DPR Live to Coachella. For this reason, the head of production and I decided it would be best to go with the tools and process we knew would work.
That means an m32 rack system running monitors and a split to a house FOH console. In retrospect, this was not the best route to go. I think that if we had decided to take a risk and use whatever gear the festival provided, the end product would have been much better and the band would have been much happier. The next time I would do this, I would not use the m32. I would not take the safe route because it works. Next time, I’m gonna take the route that’s worth the effort. Worth the risk.
